What's the Difference between the Watershed and
the Basin?

The CHOCORUA LAKE WATERSHED has the usual definition. In
the case of Chocorua Lake it is the area of about 13 square miles where
a drop of water would eventually run into lake, if it didn't evaporate
first or get trapped by a local low point like Heron Pond.
For planning purposes the CHOCORUA LAKE BASIN was defined
as the area "bounded by the Albany town line on the north, Washington
Hill Road on the east, the southerly reaches of Heavenly Hill (east of
Route 16) on the south, and the junction of Fowler's Mill Road [now Chocorua
Lake Road] and Philbrick Neighborhood Road on the west." ("Chocorua
Conservation over the Years," Chocorua Lake Conservation Foundation,
1993.)
