Winter Animal Adaptations—Hands-on Outdoor Workshop for Kids & Families

  • K. A. Brett School 881 Tamworth Road Tamworth, NH 03886 United States (map)

This time of year we humans bundle up in coats and hats, scarves and mittens, maybe even snow pants! What do the other animals in our neighborhood do to stay warm all winter?

On Saturday, February 5 at 10AM and 11AM, join the Chocorua Lake Conservancy, the Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm, and the Tamworth Farmers’ Market for Winter Animal Adaptations, outdoors at the Tamworth Farmers’ Market at the K.A. Brett School in Tamworth. Have you ever wondered how animals survive outside when you start shivering during a quick outdoor adventure? Discover some amazing adaptations that help New England animals survive our frigid winter temperatures. Lesson activities will be interactive and hands-on, so come prepared to keep warm like the forest critters do! Remick Museum program manager and outdoor educator Jim Cruickshank will guide us through a series of explorations and experiments. The 10-10:45AM session is for toddlers through kindergarteners and their caregivers. The 11AM session will be geared toward elementary school students, their families, and anyone who wants to learn more about our wild neighbors. Before or after, take a stroll around the Farmers’ Market and enjoy some local provisions!

This event is free. Please register by Thursday, February 3 below so that we have plenty of materials for everyone. Kids, please bring an adult with you. Storm, wind, or rain date is Saturday, February 19.
