We’re delighted to co-sponsor the Tamworth Outing Club’s August Contra Dance with caller Dudley Laufman. Full details from the TOC below!
Meet new friends or old, learn new steps, or teach familiar ones to a friend or neighbor, and be part of a longstanding New England tradition, all in one evening.
On Saturday, August 3, from 7:30-10PM, the Tamworth Outing Club welcomes all ages to the Tamworth Town House for our August contra dance with caller Dudley Laufman. Dances are held on the second floor of the Tamworth Town House, at 27 Cleveland Hill Road in Tamworth Village, directly across from the Congregational Church. Admission is $8 for teens and adults; $3 for children 12 and under.
Traditional New England dancing is fun, easy, and family-friendly. Tamworth dances, hosted by the Tamworth Outing Club since 1937, are well-known throughout the state and region as welcoming and multi-generational, with dancers of all ages and abilities gathering to enjoy the company of old friends and new acquaintances. Callers spend time before each set teaching the steps and guiding dancers through parts of the upcoming dance. Experienced dancers are encouraged to help others, so that everyone can enjoy the lively music and congenial mixing and mingling on the floor.
In August, we give an appreciative welcome to our Community Partner, Chocorua Lake Conservancy. The CLC is a volunteer-led, nonprofit land trust founded in 1968 to protect the scenic and natural resources of the Chocorua Lake Basin and surrounding area, acreage that includes shorefront and wetlands supporting a diversity of unusual plants and animals. The CLC is committed to providing convenient and attractive public access to Chocorua Lake and trails on nearby conservation lands for visitors and local residents. For more information please visit chocorualake.org.
Come join Dudley and his band on Saturday, August 3 for a memorable evening on the dance floor!
The Tamworth Outing Club hosts a monthly dance, year-round. There is also a dance on New Year’s Eve. Go to tamworthoutingclub.org for a complete listing of 2019 dances.
