Nature Apps for the Naturalist with David Govatski

Smartphones are usually blamed for keeping us away from the natural world, so how can smartphones connect more people with nature?

On Tuesday, June 10 at 7 PM via Zoom, join Chocorua Lake Conservancy (CLC) and Cook Memorial Library for Nature Apps for the Naturalist, with David Govatski. This educational program will introduce us to several applications that we can install on our smartphones to better understand and enjoy our natural world. Field guides are great but heavy to carry. Nature apps can improve naturalists’ skills and contribute to citizen science projects. Naturalist David Govatski will discuss apps for birds, geology, weather, plants, and apps that supplement paper maps for trail navigation. Come learn about when nature apps can enhance your learning, and when you might need to be cautious with them. Bring your questions!

David Govatski is a naturalist and field trip leader who retired from the US Forest Service after a 33-year career. He now works as a ship naturalist in Alaska during the summer, leads field trips, and presents autumn foliage programs in New Hampshire in September and October. David is a proponent of getting out and enjoying nature. He will show how smartphone apps can increase our enjoyment of nature without detracting from it.
