Pollinators & Plants Crankie Performance

  • Cook Memorial Library 93 Main Street Tamworth, NH 03886 (map)

Come see a gorgeous hand-painted celebration of the pollinators we need for our survival, and the plants they need for theirs.

Please join Appalachian Mountain Club, Green Mountain Conservation Group, Cook Memorial Library, Chocorua Lake Conservancy, Mountains to the Sea writers’ group, and Yeoman’s Fund for the Arts at Cook Memorial Library in Tamworth on Friday, May 22, at 3:30 PM for a live performance of the Pollinators & Plants crankie. In March, nearly 30 local artists of all ages gathered to create a beautiful, educational crankie that considers why pollinators (and plants) matter to us and why certain plants and pollinators matter a lot to each other.

What the heck is a crankie? It’s a long scroll of images that gets rolled up and shown frame by frame, sort of like a movie. Crankies, called panoramas in the 19th century when they were super popular, are an early form of moving picture.

Interested in ongoing learning about plants and pollinators, and to participate in citizen science? Come to Cook Library at 1 PM on Friday, May 22 for a workshop on how to use iNaturalist for citizen science projects tracking pollinator/plant interactions with Haley Andreozzi of UNH Cooperative Extension, and then stay for the crankie performance! Info and register for the free iNaturalist workshop HERE.

The Cook Library is wheelchair accessible. This performance is free.
