This past September, the Friends of the Cook Memorial Library asked us to speak at their Annual Meeting and share the history and current activity of CLC with their group. Many thanks to the Friends for this invitation, which provided the impetus to write a short history of the Lake Basin and the CLC.

At long last, and after hard work on the part of many people, the Chocorua Lake Basin View Lot is open to the public. The Chocorua Lake Conservancy would like to express a deeply appreciative “Thanks!” to everyone involved for the creation of a safe and beautifully presented site.

Photographer and CLC Trail Steward Jim Diamond has wanted to take a photograph in which the Milky Way is lined up with the peak of Mount Chocorua. “For this shot,” he says, “I wanted a clear moonless night with the lake unfrozen, so I could capture the reflections off the water, as well.” But how easy are all those conditions to come by?
